  • Sekki—an 8-year-old cat known as a sweet, old grandpa—is now available for adoption after his owner surrendered him. The Humane Society for Southwest Washington hopes to find him a quiet, loving home.  KOIN

CRIME NEWS

  • A Clark County deputy fatally stabbed a suspected drunk-driving suspect at about 11:58 p.m. Wednesday at a state police weigh station in Ridgefield after the suspect allegedly tried to grab the deputy's gun (the suspect's name has not been released), and the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations will lead the investigation.  The Oregonian
  • Vancouver police are pursuing suspects after Rodney A. Hupp, 62, was shot to death in his home around 4:10 a.m. on May 3 in the 10400 block of Southeast French Road—detectives say the prowlers used his garage opener to enter and shot him when he confronted them.  The Oregonian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov Bob Ferguson signed House Bill 1217 on Wednesday to set limits on rent increases at 7% plus inflation or 10% for most rentals and 5% for manufactured homes, adding tenant protections in response to rising housing costs. Bill sponsor Sen. Emily Alvarado said the measure will safeguard nearly 40% of renters and help stabilize housing for families and older adults.  The Oregonian
