CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities arrested 23-year-old Erik Moya after a wrong-way driver struck a Roosevelt High student on State Route 14 in Camas on Monday night, killing 18-year-old Michael O’Brien and injuring two other students—police say he was under the influence.  The Oregonian
  • Authorities are searching for Franky Fred, an 18-year-old Pacific Islander male who was last seen on Friday near Vancouver Lake close to the Columbia River wearing black Nike shoes, black pants, and a white hoodie with Hawaiian flowers while leaving behind personal items at the beach, and anyone with information is urged to call Vancouver police.  KOIN

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wednesday’s Jeopardy Masters semifinals aired at 9 p.m. on ABC and featured local competitor Yogesh Raut—joining Victoria Groce and Juveria Zaheer—as they advanced after Tuesday’s quarterfinal games.  The Oregonian
  • A guide lists 13 upcoming events from May 30 to June 5 including Cirque du Soleil’s ice show at Memorial Coliseum, the NW Dance Project’s season finale at Newmark Theatre, and the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra’s season finale at Skyview Concert Hall—local organizers plan family activities, art exhibits, and comedy shows with ticket prices from $10 to $75.  The Oregonian

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • On Tuesday, the Governor’s Salmon Recovery Office released a report showing six of the 14 at-risk salmon species in Washington are improving while eight face extinction due to climate change and habitat loss — officials urged ongoing recovery efforts to support the local fishing industry and ecosystem health.  KOIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Clark County Public Works announced summer road preservation work that will cause temporary delays and closures on county roads—residents living near treatment areas have received notifications and are advised to check routes before traveling. The projects include applying cape seal, slurry seal, chip seal and hot mix asphalt to maintain local infrastructure.  Clark County Today
  • The Port of Vancouver USA awarded Advanced Excavating Specialist a contract to extend the 0.66-mile bike and pedestrian pathway along NW Lower River Road, with work set to begin this summer and finish by the end of 2025—part of an effort to create a continuous corridor connecting downtown and Vancouver Lake.  Clark County Today
