ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A worker in Woodland was injured on Tuesday at a construction site when an excavator bucket fell on him while he was working in a 15-ft trench—Vancouver Fire, Fire District 6, and Portland Fire Rescue’s Technical Rescue Teams helped extricate him before he was transported by Life Flight with injuries to his lower legs. BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ Hood Packaging told state workforce officials that it will close its paper bag plant in Vancouver and lay off 94 workers starting Aug 1 after submitting a notice of suspension of operations—this plant makes bags for items such as pet litter and coffee beans. The Atlanta-based company operates nearly two dozen factories across the US and Canada. The Oregonian

- ➤ Two people died and one person was critically injured after an incident at a Battle Ground home just before 10:00 a.m.—police said there is no ongoing threat. KOIN
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Evergreen Public Schools will offer free summer meals to all children (ages 1-18), regardless of enrollment, at local schools. Marrion and Silver Star Elementary will serve breakfast and lunch from June 13 to 20, Cascadia Tech will serve meals from June 23 to July 12, and Image Elementary and Legacy High School will serve meals from July 14 to Aug. 1 (the program has served the community for several years). ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Washington State Fish and Wildlife will offer free fishing and free parking at state parks on June 7-8 to let residents try fishing without a license for most types of freshwater fish. Anglers must follow fishing rules and note that a license is still needed for species like salmon, steelhead, sturgeon and halibut. The Oregonian

- ➤ Clark County Sheriff John Horch said he was surprised when DHS briefly listed his county as a sanctuary jurisdiction — and he clarified his department never obstructed federal immigration efforts.
