GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Washington State Patrol Crime Laboratory Division is expanding its firearms forensics team because a backlog of 955 cases with wait times near 13 months has strained capacity, and it will double testing capacity by 2026. Four new scientists are already working while additional trainees are set to finish by mid-to-late August and by year-end—efforts expected to steadily reduce case backlogs.  Clark County Today
  • Vancouver city leaders approved a resolution to put a new property-tax measure on the November ballot that would raise taxes by 15 cents per $1,000 to fund up to 13 officers and cover police-related expenses.
