COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, the Clark County Fair offers multiple events with a Tuff Trucks competition at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., a Donut Eating Contest at 1 p.m., carnival rides starting at noon, educational Ice Age Adventures shows at 2:30, 4:30 and 6:30 p.m., and a K-9 demonstration at 5:30 p.m. Visitors will also enjoy monster truck rides, a live bird show and a visit with Curly the Camel—attracting families throughout the fair’s final weekend.  Clark County Today

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, a pickup truck ran a red light at Southeast Mill Plain Boulevard and 160th Avenue in Vancouver, causing a multicar crash that injured at least 10 people and led the truck driver to flee on foot to his apartment on the 17700 block where he was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound — the incident follows a weekday crash in which a bicyclist was fatally struck.  The Oregonian

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, councilor Bart Hansen supports a small annexation proposal that would add about 1,700 residents — he warns that expanding too quickly may worsen the city’s budget strain. County Councilor Michelle Belkot opposes the proposals due to budget concerns and public opposition — and she urges residents in the affected areas to share their views.  Clark County Today
  • David Chamblee, a retired Vancouver police officer, filed a lawsuit last week against the city and former commander Amy Foster—he alleges she falsely reported him and put him on a Brady list. He says the claim has hurt his reputation and led to work disruptions, and he seeks a civil trial with damages.  The Oregonian

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Washington woman was diagnosed with malaria on August 2 despite not traveling abroad—health officials are investigating a rare local case linked to a mosquito bite from someone with a travel-related infection, even as doctors report that the risk remains very low.  KOIN
