EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ After many talks since April, the Vancouver Association of Educational Support Professionals reached a tentative contract with Vancouver Public Schools—union president Chipo Sowards said the deal is fair. More than 800 support staff will vote by Oct. 1 following a Sept. 11 vote to allow a strike if needed. KOIN
- ➤ Washington ranked third on WalletHub’s Best States for Teachers list due to recent pay increases and quick tenure—teachers only need three years before tenure, boosting the state’s ranking. Vancouver Public Schools avoided a strike with a tentative agreement while other districts faced teacher strikes that delayed classes. KOIN
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The National Weather Service said strong east winds stirred up old volcanic ash from the 1980s at Mount St. Helens—making it appear as if the volcano were erupting while it remains inactive.
