ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Fatal wrong-way driving accidents in Washington have surged 300% since 2014 and now the Washington Department of Transportation is installing sensor-based detection systems—funded with $2 million—to alert drivers and law enforcement at key on-ramps including several locations in Clark County.  KOIN

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Clark County Arts Commission will host Music on the Plaza at the Public Service Center on Sept. 20 from 2–4 p.m. and the event will feature local bands, poetry and community performances.  Clark County Today

EDUCATION NEWS

  • La Center School District closed Wednesday after unsuccessful bargaining sessions with the La Center Education Association, and teachers picketed outside schools as negotiations extended into the night—families were promised an update by 8 p.m.  KOIN

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The League of Women Voters of Clark County will hold three candidate forums ahead of the Nov. 4 election—one on Sept. 6 at Camas Public Library and the other two on Sept. 24 and Oct. 10 at Vancouver Community Library where local candidates will answer voter questions.  Clark County Today
  • The Clark County Board of Health is inviting a nurse to serve on its Public Health Advisory Council, with applications due by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30—if selected, the volunteer role begins as soon as filled and runs until Sept. 30, 2028.  Clark County Today

HEALTH NEWS

  • California, Oregon, and Washington announced the West Coast Health Alliance on September 3rd—an effort to share science-based public health recommendations following concerns over CDC staff firings and politicized guidelines. The alliance will work to ensure residents receive consistent, trusted advice on immunizations and other health practices.  KOIN
